Requirements

This certificate is given to a person for their commitment to studying “Art-Care” under the supervision of Dr. R. Michael Fisher and Dr. Barbara Bickel of Studio M*.

Level One “Art-Care Certificate”

A basic Participation Certificate for 6 study sessions (12 hrs) of attending the Art-Care Study Circle. Involves attendance at least 80% synchronous and the other 20% can be via watching the recorded sessions.

Level Two “Art-Care Facilitator Certificate”

This involves participation in the Art-Care/Spontaneous Creation-Making Circle (12 hrs), facilitation (4+ hrs) and an inquiry project (4+ hrs) and the reading of Art-Care Practices for Restoring the Communal: Education, Co-Inquiry and Healing (2023) (order for your local public  library if you do not want to purchase a copy) and/or Opening Doors: A Guide to Spontaneous Creation-Making (1993) by Bickel & Fisher https://opensiuc.lib.siu.edu/ad_pubs/7/

a) participate in minimum of 6 study sessions. Involves attendance at least 80% synchronous and the other 20% can be made-up by watching the recorded sessions.

b) consult with Bickel & Fisher in order to facilitate two or more sessions of art-care practice (e.g., SCM) inside and/or outside the study group and share a 500 word written or audio/video reflection of those experiences.

c) carry out an inquiry into at least one of the Matrixial Aesthetic Practices (MAPs) from the Art-Care Practices for Restoring the Communal book (Bickel & Fisher); share a creative presentation/paper/zine on the new understandings that emerge.

Level Three “Advanced Art-Care Facilitator Certificate”

This involves participation in two rounds of an Art-Care Study Circle (24 hrs), facilitation (10+ hrs) and an inquiry project (9+ hrs).

a) participate in two 6 week study-circle sessions. Involves attendance in at least 80%
synchronous and the other 20% can be made-up by watching the recorded sessions.

b) consult with Bickel & Fisher in order to facilitate a portion of an Art-Care Study circle; facilitate 4 or more sessions of art-care practice (e.g., SCM) outside the study circle; and share a 1000 word written or voice reflection summary of those experiences.

c) carry out an inquiry into at least 3 of the Matrixial Aesthetic Practices (MAPs) from the Art-Care Practices for Restoring the Communal book (Bickel & Fisher); share a creative presentation/paper/zine on new understandings that emerged.
